Ned E. Seath of Chase passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in Traverse City. He was 81.
He was born September 13, 1943, in Reed City to Edward Earl and Phyllis Ann (Neal) Seath. Ned attended school at the St. Philip-Neri Catholic School and graduated from Reed City High School in 1962.
He joined the United States Marine Corps. in 1962 where he served his country honorably as a machine gun team leader with Company K, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines from June of 1962 until October of 1966 during the Vietnam War. He chose to reenter the Marine Corps. and served another active-duty tour of service to his country in Vietnam from February of 1969 until June of that year when he was honorably discharged with several awards including the Navy Cross, Bronze Star, four Purple Heart medals, and other citations.
Ned married June Mitchell in 1971, and they share two daughters, Angela and Melissa. He was married in 1984 to Susan Eggenberger. Ned worked in the oil fields near Reed City and later was employed with the C&O Railroad from which he later retired in 2007.
He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davison, hunting and fishing, and to be outdoors in nature. He loved cats and the Marine Corps. You would often find him on the golf course or poking the campfire.
He is survived by his daughters Angela (Mike) Bare and Melissa (Jason Neumann) Seath; stepson Ben Eggenberger; and grandchildren Jacob, Jared, Derrick, Jade, Sean, Josie, Ashley, and Nancy; along with several great-grandchildren; his sister Ann Valley, brother Phillip (Nancy) Seath; niece Alicia; and nephews Aaron Summers, Jamie Summers, and Mark Seath.
He was preceded in death by his parents Phyllis and Edward; his wife Susan Seath; and brother Mark Seath.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 9, 2025, at the St. Philip-Neri Catholic Church in Reed City with visitation beginning at 9:30 A.M. Graveside services with military honors will take place at the Woodland Cemetery in Reed City at 2:00 P.M.
