Larry Edward Conrad, 78, of Reed City

Larry Edward Conrad, born on October 30, 1946, of Reed City, Michigan, passed away peacefully in his bed on May 16, 2025, under Hospice care.

Larry leaves behind his two sons, Sean and Michael Conrad, as well as two grandchildren; Lisa Conrad, to whom he served as a father figure; and his brother, Tom (and Vicki) Conrad, and sister, Kathy (and Mike) Green. They all lovingly remember him as one who loved wholly and gave without expectation of anything in return.

Leaving his small hometown after graduating high school, Larry moved to the Capitol where he worked as a file clerk for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in pursuit of his aspiration of becoming an agent. As one who felt a deep sense of patriotism to his country and also knowing that Hoover respected men who served, Larry enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War but served in military police and ultimately in military intelligence, stationed in Okinawa, Japan, instead of combat deployment.  Upon completing his service, he was honorably discharged and returned to civilian life, studied accountancy, and worked as an entrepreneur throughout his life.

Larry enjoyed being in nature, with a special appreciation for fishing, gardening, and grilling, as well as outdoor sports—particularly basketball, tennis, and golf—and indoor sports, with a keen love of billiards, cards, and darts. From his father, Lawrence, and grandfather, Percy, he loved stamp collecting, numismatics, and movies, sharing not only his wealth of knowledge but also his collections with those he loved, encouraging them toward finding hobbies. From his mother, Elaine, and grandmother, Flossie, he bonded through acts of service, especially cooking and giving. Those who knew him best would recognize most his love of silliness, laughter, and animals of all kinds—though a special affection for strays and rescues.

In accordance with his wishes, Larry will be cremated, his ashes scattered in the places that brought him the deepest joy and peace—the corners of the world he most loved. Those wishing to honor his memory may consider supporting their local animal?welfare organization—or adopting an animal in need—in Larry’s name.

May the memory of his laughter and love touch those who remember him.
