Our beautiful mother and oma, Luise Ohlendorf, went home to the Lord on May 17, 2025. She was 97 years old.
Luise was born on March 21, 1928, in Roenne, Germany to Karl and Elisabeth Twesten and married her husband Guenter Ohlendorf on August 25, 1951. In October of that year they arrived in New York City via the transport ship, the U.S.S Hersey.
Luise raised her family in Royal Oak, MI where she enjoyed gardening, riding her bike, dancing and above all, making sure everyone was well fed. Her wonderful baked cakes will be fondly remembered. She was also very involved with the German community in the Detroit area, and an active member of the German American Marksmanship Club (D.A.S.V.).
Luise and her husband moved to Reed City in 2006, where they enjoyed riding their bikes on the rail trails. Luise was still pedaling at the age of 92 with the biggest smile on her face.
Luise is survived by her three children, Leo (Dawn) Ohlendorf of Saginaw, Linda Forshee of Reed City, and Lora (Bob) Crawford of Gilbert, AZ; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; siblings Inge and Rolf (Germany); and her dear friend Darline Hitzemann.
She was predeceased by her husband Guenter of 60 years and siblings Thea, Karl, Hilde, Hedwig, and Liesbeth.
The family would also like to extend the greatest of gratitude to the Corwell Health Hospice team for the wonderful care and support given to Luise.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Ludington State Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Church and School in Reed City, MI.
