David Edward Shifflett Sr., 82

David Edward Shifflett Sr., age 82, of Union, MO, who was residing in Boise, Idaho, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on November 21, 1942, in St. Louis, MO, David was the son of the late Thelma Grus and Donald Shifflett Sr. David was a proud graduate of Union High School in Union, MO. He dedicated over 50 years of his life to a career as a Machinist, where he was known for his dedication, hard work, and for always being there when needed.

He married his beloved wife, Ruth Shifflett, on May 24, 1962, and together they raised five children: Steffeney Kay Riggins, Lucinda Ann Shifflett-Hubble-Haynes, David Edward Shifflett Jr., Todd Fitzgerald Shifflett, and Tina Elaine Shifflett-Shroat.

Above all, David will be remembered for his quick wit, his smile, his compassion for people, his love of Western movies, and his deep love for his family. David found immense joy in fishing, camping, and the outdoors. He loved to eat various types of food and, of course, was never far from a Dr Pepper. He also had a lifelong love of horses. He was known for his clever ingenuity, often quipping that he "could sharpen a paperclip into a razor blade," and for his profound desire to make the world a better place, often expressing "how he would fix everything in the world if he could." While no one is perfect, David was a truly good man who tried to make a positive impact on all who knew him.

David loved his family—all of them—and though he sometimes had an odd way of showing it, each person held a special place in his heart. He cherished his wife, his children, stepchildren, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom loved him deeply in return.

David is survived by his children, David E. Shifflett Jr. His Wife Julie, Todd F. Shifflett, his wife Kathleen, and Tina E. Shroat, her wife Beth; his sister, Judy Koester; and his brother, Donald Shifflett. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. Shifflett; his father, Donald Shifflett; his mother, Thelma Grus; and his daughters, Steffeney Riggins and Cindy Haynes.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the near future. A private burial service with the family will be held on October 29, 2025 at Osceola Township Cemetery in Evart, MI.
