Frederick “Fred” Stephen Lewins, 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
Fred was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1958, the third of five children of Frederick Anthony and Lily Helena (nee Mellon) Lewins. He was raised in Harper Woods, Michigan and joined the US Army Reserve while attending Bishop Gallagher High School. After graduating in 1975, Fred enlisted in the United States Army and served his country with great honor and distinction and remained a deeply proud veteran throughout his entire life.
After settling in Paris, Michigan, Fred met and married the love of his life, Cindy (nee Holcom) and together they raised four beautiful children.
Fred was a thoughtful, generous and joyful individual with a great sense of humor and spontaneous nature. An avid camper, fisherman, mushroom hunter, and traveler, he was always ready to head out on a new adventure at the drop of a hat.
He had a way of making friends wherever he went and will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.
Fred is survived by his wife of 26 years, Cindy and his devoted children, Heidi (James), Amy, Elizabeth “Eby” (Christopher) and Frederick III “Freddy” along with his many grandchildren. Fred is also survived by his siblings: Loretta Lewins-Peck (Thomas Peck), Thomas, John and Marguerite Younger (Andrew) as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Fred’s life will be held in April 2026; the location and time to be announced.
