On Sunday, March 1, 2026, Ima Jane Slabaugh, 90, of Evart, passed away peacefully at home.
She was born November 22, 1935, to James and Stella (Dukes) Boatwright in Dearborn, Michigan. Ima retired from Evart Products after 20 years of service. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting, board games, and cards—especially euchre. She also enjoyed her TOPS group in Evart, where she made several great friends, who traveled and participated in many events together. Ima was spunky, kind, and when you least expected it, very witty,. She always put others before herself. She was active in her church and attended in person whenever possible. When she could not attend in person, she figured out how to "you tube" the service and faithfully attended every Sunday.
Ima was preceded in death by, sister; Alla Lorraine (Jack) Denyer, brother; James (Geraldine) Boatwright, first husband and father of her children, Richard Ayres, husband, James Slabaugh, grandson, Richard James Ayres, parents, and several nieces and nephews.
Ima is survived by her children; Russell (Kathy) Ayres of Clarkston, Douglas (Judy Barrette) Ayres of Ortonville, Daniel (Diane Dorow) Ayres of Fowlerville, Matthew (Barbara) Ayres and Cynthia Ayres of Evart as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including special granddaughter, Molly Hohman.
Cremation and care have been entrusted to Corey Funeral Home in Evart, MI. Services for Ima will take place on Thursday, March 5th at 12:00 PM with Pastor Mark Bullock officiating. Visitation will be from 11am to 12pm with a luncheon immediately following at the Evart Free Methodist Church, 6153 95th Ave., Evart, MI
