Helen June Young, loving wife, mother, grandma, great grandma & friend, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026. She was 89 years old.

On November 15, 1936 Ray and Zada Curtis, welcomed their baby girl, Helen into their lives in Belding, MI, where she spent most of her school years. She spoke fondly of her years in Belding, where she played the flute in the band. Her memories of Belding stayed with her until her last days. When she was a junior in high school her family moved to Evart to open Curtis Grocery. Helen made friends quickly and soon met her future husband, Thomas Young. Tom and Helen eloped in Angola, IN on July 25, 1955, with good friends Kay and Sterling McLachlan. Together, they built a life in Evart and raised three children. Tom and Helen were married 62 years until his passing in December 2017.

Anyone who knew Helen quickly learned how much she loved her family, especially your grandsons. She always loved being outside, fishing on the Betsie, raking leaves, and shoveling snow. With her birthday being on opening day, hunting was always a must.

Helen worked a few years when her children were younger in a factory in Marion and at Evart Products. By far, her favorite jobs took place when her children were grown, at Evart Elementary School, as a playground aide and in the lunchroom. She was loved by all of the kids, mostly because in her words, “I, was the same height as them.”

Left to treasure, the memories they have of this energetic, and courageous woman are, her children, Thomas R. Young of Evart, Cindy (Charles) McDonald of Draper, Utah and Tami (Steve) Salinas of Marne, 6 grandchildren, Dustin (Michelle), Brandon (Michelle), Jordan (Katy), Lela (James Bissett), John and Matt, 16 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Barb Young, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Helen is now reunited with her husband, Thomas, brother, William (Colleen) Curtis, sister, Dorothy (Ladro) Benedict, in-laws, William (Corinne) Young, Elizabeth (William "Mack") McMahon, Nell (Warren) Mauck and Charles "Pete" Young and her parents.

Funeral services honoring Helen Young are 2:00pm Monday, May 18th at the Sears Church of God, where they attended for numerous years. Pastor Nolan VanOrder officiating. Visitation is prior to the service 12:00pm to 2:00pm on Monday at the church. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Evart. Memorial contributions may be directed to Edison Christian Assisted Living in Grand Rapids where she resided.
