Obituaries

Irene P. Taylor, 93

Irene P. Taylor of Reed City died on May 21, 2026, at her residence. She was 93 years old. 

Irene was born in Flint, MI on September 9, 1932, to Andrew & Pauline Sitko. She graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1949. On November 17, 1951, she married Carl M. Taylor who preceded her in death on May 17, 2000.

Irene was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church (serving as the Rosary Altar Society of the church as Treasurer and President for 22 years).  She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary #2964, helping with the breakfasts, fish frys, and chicken BBQ for the veterans. She was also a lifetime member of the Northwest Michigan Engine & Thrasher Club and on the Arts & Crafts committee for eight years.

Irene taught ceramics for 51 years at her home to many people, including time given to scout troops, 4-H clubs and Trinity Lutheran students.  She was an avid ‘Snowman Collector’ and she also spent time with her flower gardens and plants.  She also enjoyed going to breakfast with the Michigan State Police retirees at the H & D Restaurant.

Surviving are four daughters, Marcia Jenkins, Cheryl (David) Babcock, Karen (David) MacKellar, Maureen (Art) Jeannot; grandchildren Brenda (Ashley) Townsend, Jason (Shawn) Babcock, Wendy (P.J.) Seymour, Sean MacKellar, Phillip Jeannot and Stuart Jeannot; great grandchildren Allison, Ashley, Bailey and Peyton; also five great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son-in-law Jim Jenkins, 4 sisters and 2 brothers.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the St. Philip-Neri Catholic Church in Reed City, with a Rosary prayer service beginning at 7:00 pm, and on Wednesday, 1 hour before the service.

A Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Philip-Neri Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 11:00 am with Father Phil Shangraw presiding.

Burial will follow at the Woodland Cemetery in Reed City. 

Memorial donations may be made to St. Philip-Neri Catholic Church. Envelopes will be provided.
