Brenda Lee Vasicek (1949-2026) passed away peacefully in her home on June 5, 2026, surrounded by family after a long battle with multiple strokes and dementia.
Brenda was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who cared deeply for others. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, riding bikes and spending time with her husband, family and friends. Brenda had a passion for teaching and enriching the lives of her students.
Brenda was born in Hannibal, Missouri on April 16, 1949, to Fred and Jo Ann Kessler. Her favorite memories include boating and spending time together at their cabin at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri with her parents and sisters Connie, Kay, and Susie.
Brenda attended Theodore Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa prior to studying English Literature at Sioux Falls College in South Dakota. After receiving her master’s degree, Brenda attained her dream job teaching English Literature at Ferris State University. Upon retiring Brenda continued her involvement in education by serving as president of the Emeriti Association of Ferris State University.
Brenda met the love of her life, George (Yogi). in 1969 on the campus of Sioux Falls College in South Dakota. They were married August 21, 1970, in Des Moines, Iowa. They enjoyed camping, playing cards, golfing, and going out to dinner together. One of Brenda’s favorite things to do was watch her son and grandchildren play sports where she was a very supportive and energetic fan.
Brenda is survived by her husband, George (Yogi) and son Todd Vasicek (Christa) and their grandchildren Gabriel and Hannah. She is also survived by Brenda’s sisters, Connie, Kay and Susie. She was preceded in passing by her parents Fred and Jo Ann Kessler.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Emeriti Association Scholarship at Ferris State University.
