Denise Louise Hoisington passed away at her home on August 10, 2026. She was born in Sturgis, Michigan on December 1, 1953, the daughter of Robert and Jean Wells.
Denise's greatest passion was in nursing. She earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Ferris State University, her master's degree from Andrews University, and finally her PhD from Michigan State University. Denise worked in all aspects of healthcare, including surgery, emergency, and education. Students from Ferris State University, Grand Rapids Community College, and Montcalm Community College were all lucky enough to be taught by Denise. She also worked in the IT department at Ferris. Denise especially loved the part of the school year when clinical rotations took place. She loved working with her students in a practical way.
When Denise wasn't working, she could often be found quilting. She proudly gifted a quilt to every newly married couple in her family, and enjoyed travelling to different quilt shops.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 47 years, Jim; children: Laura (Joe) Forquer and Sarah (Becky Weinberg) Hoisington; siblings: Bobbie (Connie) Wells and Terri Wells; granddaughter: Lila Forquer, and special nephew: Justin Wells. She is preceded in death by both parents, as well as her brother: Brad Wells. As well as many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are in the care of Daggett Gilbert Funeral Homes, Big Rapids. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
