Linda Johnston, age 79, of Edmore, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Greenville Hospital with her family by her side.
Linda Darlene Wymer was born July 10, 1947, to parents Lawrence and Walta. She grew up in Edmore, where she graduated with the Class of 1966 from Edmore High School. Linda met her husband at the roller-skating rink in Crystal, where she raced against her best friend Linda Kay and won. She married David Lee Johnston on June 3, 1967, and together they started their family right away, raising three daughters. Linda worked in general labor at several manufacturing jobs, eventually landing at Hitachi Magnetics, where she worked until the factory closed.
In retirement, she loved being a grandmother and spending time with her grandkids at the cabin. She enjoyed hunting and fishing, attending their sporting events, and in younger years, water skiing, traveling, and quilting; what Dave called "knit n’ pick." She also enjoyed time with friends, including many trips to Murphy's Bar, living without filters and never being afraid to voice her thoughts.
Linda will be deeply missed by her daughters, Mishelle Johnston, Charlene (Dan) Ryckman, and Vanessa Johnston; five grandchildren, Danielle (Jarrid) Thrush, Dakota Ryckman, Keigan (Lauren) Ryckman, Anya Jelinek, and Dominic Jelinek; great-grandchildren, Isabell Thrush, Kyser Thrush, Pyper Ryckman, Zachary and Emily Ryckman; and former son-in-law Aaron Jelinek. She is also survived by her sisters, Connie, Carolyn, and Leona; sisters-in-law Lois and Linda; brother Tim; favorite nephew Andy; favorite niece Karen, along with several other nieces, nephews, extended family members, and special friends.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, dear husband Dave, brother Jim, and by brothers-in-law Junior and Dean, and sister-in-law Cheryl.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Linda’s life will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at noon at Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Edmore. Family will greet friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
