Wayne Schuberg, 90, of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026, with his loving family by his side. He was born August 14, 1935, the son of the late Stanley and Eva Mae (Ely) Schuberg, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1953 with a great enthusiasm for life. He was born, raised, and lived on the Schuberg Centennial Farm, continuing the family farming tradition.
On July 19, 1956, he married the love of his life, Anna May Hurdle, and they both cherished their time in the great outdoors, the acres of wooded property, enjoying all the times of beauty and tranquility of nature, hay fields growing in the spring, evening nights in the Doodlebug, deer herds roaming the fields, animals on the farm, filling the barn with baled hay, beautiful summer days and blustery winter storms. Their love story lasted 70 years.
Wayne was a family man who taught his beloved children and grandchildren the ethics of farm life. He was a kind, sweet, gentle man who would do anything for anyone.
He started work at a very young age for Triangle Auto Sales and then worked for Hydaker Wheatlake. With ingenuity, Wayne learned skills and abilities and established the Wayne Schuberg PCP Company, then later forming the Wayne Schuberg Company, specializing in underground cable systems throughout Michigan.
He was a member of the Local 324 Union, Colfax Farm Bureau, and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Big Rapids.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Anna May; daughters, Lynn (Bob) Horan III and Lori (John) Weipert; his twin sister, Eathyl Harris; sons-in-law, Earl Walsh and Mike Herrick; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Wayne; daughters, Liane Walsh and Lisa Herrick; sister and brother-in-law, Clayre and Bob Windquist; and brother-in-law, Gene Harris.
There will be a celebration of Wayne’s life held from 2-6 p.m., October 10, 2026, at Clear Lake Golf Course in Big Rapids. Share a memory or express condolences at https://mohnkefuneralhome.com.
