Frances Margaret Ryan (F.M.) age 71, of Luther (formerly of Ironwood) passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026.
She was born January 15, 1955, in Hancock to Francis and Aurelia (Lamson) Ryan. Fran attended Newport and St. Ambrose Elementary Schools and graduated from the Ironwood Catholic High School in 1973. Fran attended the Gogebic Community College and graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Resources.
She worked for the United States Forest Service out of the Bessemer District Office and at the Watersmeet Visitors Center. Later, she went on to work with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources at the MCCC camp at Alberta, MI. From there, she continued her career at the Baldwin, MI DNR field office as a Forestry Technician. Fran concluded her career with the DNR in Lansing as a Training and Safety Officer in the Forest Resources Division.
Those who knew Fran will remember her quick wit, mischievous smile, compassionate heart, as well as the joy she brought to others with her laughter, kindness, and generosity.
Fran cherished her friends, her rescue dogs and cat, and the Michigan State Spartans…GO GREEN!
She was preceded in death by her parents; and she is survived by her brother William (Bill) Howard Ryan of Ironwood.
As were her wishes, cremation has taken place with no plans for a formal service.
