Datus Lynn Montague, age 93 of Reed City, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, August 10, 2026.
He was born May 10, 1933, in Remus to Glen and (Lelia (Mapletoff) Montague. Upon his honorable discharge from the United States Army, Datus was employed with Norgas (now Ferrellgas Company) for 32 years. He also was employed with the Reed City Area Public Schools as a bus driver and retired from the Osceola County Road Commission after 10 years.
He was a founding member and instructor with Bad Toads 4H skeet and trap club, a lifelong member of the Reed City Sportsman’s Club, and a hunter’s safety instructor.
Datus loved the outdoors and his hobbies included: hunting, camping, farming, riding motorcycles, roller skating, horse and tractor pulls at the county fair, playing cards and enjoying coffee with friends.
He is survived by his daughters: Dawnetta Montague, Plyna “PJ” (Jack) Jeffrey, Lori Manack, Angela Montague, Jennifer (Ed) Saxton, and Kathy (Jeffrey) Stein; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews including special niece Twyla (Chris) Stanifer.
Datus was preceded in death by his wife Polly Montague; son Datus A. Montague; and his brothers Richard, Alvin, and Don.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 17, 2026, at The New Beginnings Church, located at 139 W. Church Street in Reed City, MI 49677, with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. Burial at the Ashton Cemetery will follow services. An evening visitation with the family will take place at the church on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 6-8 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association.
