David Sutherland Galbraith, 76, of Big Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at his home.

He was born on March 13, 1950, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of Martin and Judith (Sutherland) Galbraith. He grew up in the Kalamazoo area and, following high school, attended Ferris State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business.

David later moved to Florida, where he worked at a dive shop and enjoyed his love of scuba diving. A little more than ten years ago, he returned to the Big Rapids area, where he worked at Ferris State University, working with computers. A man of many interests and talents, David also practiced gunsmithing, spending time fixing, cleaning, and building guns. He enjoyed shooting, scuba diving, and exploring the many possibilities of technology on his computer. He had a particular fondness for Excel and was quite the tech enthusiast, always seeming to know an assortment of random facts.

David was an independent and private man who enjoyed doing things his own way. He was inventive and clever, with a bit of a goofy side and a dry sense of humor that those who knew him came to appreciate. He had a curious mind and a knack for figuring things out, whether working with his hands or behind a computer screen.

David will be remembered and missed by his family, who will cherish their memories of him and the unique personality that made him who he was.

He is survived by his son, Michael (Juliana) Galbraith; his grandchildren, Allyson (Eric) Los, Erika, Konnor, Danika, and Kane Galbraith; his great-grandchild, Lowyn Los; and his sister, Christine Galbraith. David was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Ann Galbraith.
