George Francis Scarbrough, 85, of Reed City passed away October 5, 2026, with his family by his side. 

He was born in Pontiac, Michigan to George and Frances (Swartz)Scarbrough August 12, 1941. He grew up in the Detroit area and married Susan J Meyers on June 7, 1974. They made their home in Reed City, raising their boys and enjoying the many friendships they made there. He will be lovingly remembered for his devotion to family, church, and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing. George served our country in the Army in the 60’s and was a part of the National Guard for many years after. He was employed at Tubelite for more than 30 years, retiring in 2000.

In his free time, George found joy in fishing and camping, especially during family vacations in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. He also enjoyed following Detroit sports, especially the Red Wings, and treasured the quiet companionship of his beloved pets. These simple pleasures brought him happiness and gave his family many wonderful memories.

George is survived by his beloved wife, Sue, and his two sons, George Bernard and James Robert. He was especially fond of his daughter-in-law, Heather, wife to his son George. He is also survived by his brother, Bob of Cadillac. George was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws and three siblings, Ron, Paul and Mary.

His family meant so much to him, and the memories they created together will always be treasured. George’s gentle presence will be deeply missed, and he will be remembered with affection by his family, friends, former colleagues, and all who knew him.

Family and friends are warmly invited to gather at St. Phillips Catholic Church in Reed City on Friday, October 16. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the service following at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be shared immediately afterward.
