Osceola Co. Sheriff Crawford to retire end of December; Justin Halladay named Sheriff thru 2020

Justin Halladay is the new Osceola County Sheriff.

 

This comes after the announcement of current Sheriff Jim Crawford retiring effective December 31st.

 

Halladay, currently the Undersheriff in Osceola County will fulfill the rest of Crawford's term that lasts until December of 2020 then will have to be elected by voters.

 

Halladay's first day as Sheriff is January 1st.

Police in Mecosta Co. need help in identifying suspects in retail fraud case

 

Mecosta County Sheriff Deputies are looking for a male and female suspect they say are accused of retail fraud at the Walmart store in Big Rapids Township.

 

Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the two suspects in question.

Two drivers sent to hospital following Saturday car accident in Mecosta Co.

Two drivers were taken to a local hospital following a car accident in Mecosta County's Fork Township.

 

It happened Saturday at the intersection of M-66 and 20 Mile Rd. Sheriff Deputies say a 19-year old man from Portland was traveling westbound on 20 Mile Rd and ran the stop sign, hitting a 22-year old from Hersey man who was traveling northbound.

 

Both drivers received non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Spectrum Hospital in Big Rapids for treatment.

Spectrum Health releases top baby names of 2018

Adaline and Jaxon take first place for most popular girl and boy names among babies born in 2018 at Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital.

 

Jaxon has now been the most popular boy name for two years.

 

Alternate spellings of names are included in the hospital’s Top 10 Baby Names lists.

There was significant change in parents’ name preferences for their newborns from 2017 to 2018
with only one exception. Jaxon and all an alternate spelling of that name, has made the top 10
list since 2014.

Meijer recall kids hoodie due to choking hazard

Check your closets. Meijer is recalling about 25-thousand Fall Creek's Kids hoodies over choking concerns.

 

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the zipper slider can detach from the hoodie.

 

No injuries have been reported.

 

The recall involves Falls Creek Kids branded children’s zip up hoodies in sizes 12M,18M, 24M, 2T,3T 4T and 5T. The affected hoodies were five different styles and colors including navy, teal, gray, olive green and gray girl's with ruffled trim. “Falls Creek Kids” and “Made in China” are printed on the inner collar.

 

Anyone who may have one of the hoodies should stop using it and return it to the store for a full refund.

Cadillac woman dies in car accident in Mecosta Co.

A 23-year-old woman from Cadillac has been killed in a crash in Mecosta County's Green Township.

 

The crash reportedly happened Sunday afternoon on US-131 when the woman crashed into the back of a tow truck that was turning left into the median turnaround.

 

The woman's 14-month-old baby was in a car seat in the back seat and was not injured. 

 

The accident remains under investigation. 

Mecosta Co. Deputies looking for man & woman suspected of gas station theft

Deputies in Mecosta County are looking for a man and woman accused of a gas station left in Morley.

 

It happened around 3:30pm Monday afternoon at the Morley Depot.

 

Police say the couple drove away in a white Buick car.

BREAKING: Boil Water Advisory for City of Big Rapids

The City of Big Rapids has issued a 'Boil Water Advisory' for a minimum of 48 hours due to a loss of water pressure in the city.

 

The affected area includes those north of Woodward Avenue, north of Chestnut Street and north of Cypress Street.

 

Officials say a loss of water pressure creates a likelihood of bacteria contamination, so they are advising residents to boil their water as city workers flush the water system and bacteria samples.

 

Officials are advising residents in Big Rapids NOT TO DRINK WATER BEFORE BOILING.

ALERT: Dog food recall

A recall involving dog food.

 

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says Sunshine Mills is recalling their Evolve, Sportsman's Pride and Triumph brand food because of high levels of vitamin D that could cause serious health issues, including kidney failure.

 

The packages have "Best Buy Dates" of November 1st through November 8th.

 

The company says any dogs who may have eaten the food and show symptoms of vomiting, excessive drooling, and increased urination and thirst, should be taken to a veterinarian.

 

Those who bought the dog food can return it to the store for a refund.
