Nancy Jean Henry, 63, of Traverse City, formerly of Big Rapid

Nancy Jean Henry, 63, of Traverse City, formerly of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at the Pavilions in Traverse City.

She was born May 21, 1959, in Dearborn, MI, the daughter of Dave and Mary (Dunham) Henry, and her family moved to Big Rapids later that year. Nancy attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1977. She continued her education with a degree in fashion merchandising from Grand Rapids Community College, as well as attending Michigan State University and Ferris State College.

Nancy worked in retail merchandising, and lived in California before returning to Michigan and settling in Traverse City. She was an avid seamstress, and enjoyed volunteering her time for various charitable organizations. Most of all, Nancy loved spending time with family.

She is survived by her parents Dave and Mary Henry of Mecosta; her sister Mary Anne (Tony) Jones of Rockford; her brothers, John of Grand Rapids, Bill (Tina) of Grayslake, IL, and Mike of Thornton, CO; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins and a great friend Tom Carr. Nancy was preceded in death by her sister Catherine in 2000.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Father Dan DePew officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland View Cemetery. Jean Marie Davy, Weidman, Sept.5th 2022

Weidman - On September 5th, 2022, Jean Marie Davy shut off the lights and closed the door one last time before leaving for a much needed “vacation.” She is most looking forward to playing a few rounds of checkers with her brother, Bill Herdlein.  She can’t wait to sip some ice-cold tea and shoot the sh*t with her best friend Judy Cooper.  Jean plans to spend her days riding the fields with Bunk Wood, and sitting on the fender of her dad, William Herdlein's tractor, while spending her evenings fishing with her Grandpa Little.

Those who will definitely NOT be going on “vacation” with Jean include her husband, Bud Davy, who may or may not have a small shopping addiction.  Her “obedient” daughter Stacy (Matt) Nowak, and her “over emotional” daughter Nickie (Josh) Symon.  She will very much enjoy the peace and quiet, as all four of her grandchildren, Morgan, Walter, Mckenzie, and Rileigh will also be staying home. And we certainly can’t leave out her many nieces and nephews for fear that mom would disown us!

Jean was born in Mt. Pleasant, MI on November 25,1957, to William (Kathy) Herdlein and Joan (Gerald) Little/Doan. Jean loved all her siblings, Bill (Gail), Marge (Jim), Pam (Rick), Cher (Neil), Rose (Thom), and Brian (Shelia). Upon graduating from Beal City High School in 1976, she then met and later married the man who was to become her best friend, Bud Davy.  Together they built a beautiful home for their family with little more than patience and hard work.

More than anything Jean loved her animals.  It was not uncommon to walk into the house or shop and see her nursing some little orphan animal back to health.  She always said, “Animals are better than people because they don’t talk back!”

At this time, there will be no services, however, a Beer Thirty Party will be held at the Cabin in her honor this October.  In lieu of flowers the family would like you to remember Jean, by doing an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for another soul, human or animal.  Care and arrangements are entrusted to the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
