Teresa’s husband, Tom, joined the U.S. Navy in 1976. Teresa and Tom made a joint decision for Teresa to stay at home and raise their three children, the 3 Js (Jerica, Joshua, and Jenny), following Tom’s Navy career up and down the East Coast of the United States. Renee Mayhew, 43

Renee Mayhew, age 43, of Muskegon, Michigan, passed away April 6th, 2026, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on October 21, 1982, in Reed City to the parents of Thomas Garvon and Janet Adams.

Renee is survived by both her parents; her two sons, De’Antae and Donovan; sister Kathy; her nieces; and a nephew. Renee was predeceased by Jane Ford, her grandmother.

Our hearts are heavy as we announce the passing of our beloved family member, Renee, who brought so much light and strength to everyone she met. Renee had a quirky love of pigs started at a young age. She always wanted to have a pet pig, but ha to settle for knick-knacks, stuffed animals, and so much more. Renee devoted her life to her two sons De’Antae and Donovan. She was a single mother most of her children's lives but made sure they had everything they could ever need or want. Even after Renee's health declined, she would put her boys ahead of everything else to make sure they had great adventures and memories.

Renee volunteered in the community to raise awareness for our family’s kidney disease. She brought help to others by doing charity races and helping sign up volunteers to be organ donors. Renee has shown all her family, friends, and acquaintances the absolute strength of will she had in the last decade dealing with her everyday life and struggles with health. She never let it bring her down and instead focused on pushing through the hard times in their lives. Renee will be missed by all.

A celebration of Renee’s life will be held May 16th, 2026, at 1pm, at Chase Township Hall. Lunch will be provided. Care and arrangements are entrusted to Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home in Big Rapids.

Lonnie Lee Herman, 57

Always busy doing something- if he wasn’t building it he was taking it apart, if he wasn’t taking it apart, he was putting it together, if he wasn’t building or taking it apart, he was cleaning, if he wasn’t cleaning, he was cooking and if he wasn’t doing any of those things, he quit what he was doing to go help somebody out. That is the Lonnie Lee Herman that heaven gained on Monday, March 30, 2026.

Lonnie was born on September 15, 1968 in Reed City, Michigan to Howard and Frances (Hollenbeck) Herman. As a child, he used to make his siblings, laugh, making up songs with his brother Howard, like “Booger on the Cherry”. They might not remember all the words to the song, but they still remember the name and life was never dull. As a young man, Lonnie was always giving something away or finding some treasure to repurpose and giveaway. That’s just who he was. As a husband and father he always put their needs before his own trying to make sure they had what they needed. As Papa to his two grandchildren he lived for them. To hear their laughter, see their smiles and watch their little faces light up at something new he found for them. He was the one that Granddaughter, Maxine prayed for God to heal and the one to have the grands snuggle in bed with to watch cartoons when he didn’t feel well enough to get up. Lonnie was the doer that brought everyone together.

Lonnie held several maintenance and custodial jobs throughout the area. We will start with McDonalds. This is where he met his wife to be, Melissa Rhoads. He then transitioned over to night time custodial at Fosters for a short time before his all time favorite place to work, NABCO in Reed City. They ended up closing production in the US and moved to Mexico. By this time, Lonnie and Missy, who were married, at the Evart Free Methodist Church on April 6, 2001, had two toddlers and moving wasn’t in their plans. He worked at Walmart for 2-3 years and then became a stay at home dad for 10-12 years before going back to McDonald's.

When Lonnie had a free moment, he could be found fishing or hunting OR look out back he may just be riding the lawnmower or something else in the back two wheels or through a mud puddle! You just never knew. If you knew Lonnie you know how much he loved, Sponge Bob, Hot-wheels, the Grave Digger, VW bugs, and Godzilla. You knew he loved watching movies with Missy and that he was a perfectionist, everything needed to be properly in its place.

His perfectionist attitude led us here. It dictated his passing and set the guidelines on how his life should be celebrated. Celebrate Lonnie with the good stories, the songs he held close to his heart and the love for the Lord and faith that he will be there to welcome you when it is your time to come home.

Treasuring the memories they have are: his wife, Melissa; children, Joseph, Jeffrey, Cody & Ciarra Herman and Cassie (Curtis) Bennett; grandchildren, Brayden and Maxine Bennett & Krysten Mae Leland-Herman and Nathaniel Bryan Bouck; his beloved mom, who he was always helping out, Frances (Gary Carpenter) of Reed City; four siblings, Joan Cataldo of Evart, Christine Verburg of Evart, Barb Thornton of Big Rapids, and Howard (Sonia) Herman of Morley; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Lonnie was welcomed home by his father, maternal and paternal grandparents, mother-in-law, Elaine Clark; father-in-law, Manual Rhoads; and his brother-in-law, Ted Trudell.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, April 4th at the Evart Free Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior (noon to 1PM). Pastor Mark Bullock will be officiating.

Memorial contributions in Lonnie’s name can be made to the Evart Free Methodist Church where they have attended throughout the years. Share online by tapping the Tribute Wall tab on Lonnie’s page at www.coreyfuneralhome.com, Corey Funeral Home, Evart, MI.

Shane Michael Patterson, 35

Shane Michael Patterson, age 35, passed away on March 30, 2026, in Reed City, Michigan. He was born on September 25, 1990, in Henderson, Nevada, to Thomas Nicks and Sherri Rittenbaugh. Shane entered the world with a bright spirit that only grew stronger as he did. When he was one and a half they moved to Washington, and by age three they settled in Sears, Michigan—the place that would shape his childhood, his dreams, and the man he became.

Shane lived with a heart that was wide open. His greatest joy in life was being a father. His daughters, Lilah (10) and Willow (4), and his son, Denver (2), were the center of his universe. They were his light, his laughter, and his proudest accomplishment.

He shared a deep bond with his mother, whom he adored and loved to tease with his endless practical jokes. Shane had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and cared for. He was the kind of person who could walk into a room and instantly lift the energy. The biggest extrovert you could ever meet, he was always the first to arrive, the last to leave, and the one who made sure everyone felt included.

Shane owned and operated Patterson Construction and also found fulfillment working in the oil fields. No matter the job, he brought determination, humor, and a willingness to help anyone who needed it. He was a dreamer with big aspirations, always picking up things from the side of the road because he believed he could fix them—he saw potential everywhere, in objects and in people.

He had a fierce love for his family and a natural instinct to help others. If he saw a car on the side of the road, he stopped. If someone was having a bad day, he found a way to make them smile. His generosity wasn’t something he thought about—it was simply who he was.

Shane loved the simple joys of life: fishing at his favorite spot in Sears, cheering on the Denver Broncos, grilling and smoking meats, and celebrating the Fourth of July surrounded by the people he loved most. Those were the moments where he shined—laughing, cooking, telling stories, and making memories that will be cherished forever.

Shane was preceded in death by his oldest sister, Laura Patterson. He will be missed most and is survived by: his loving mother, Sherri Rittenbaugh, sisters; Debra (Brian Evans) Patterson, Heidi (Wayne Ahchen) Nicks; twin sister, Codie Jane Feher; children, Lilah, Willow and Denver Patterson and many extended family and friends who will forever feel the space he leaves behind.

A Celebration of Life is at Faith Bible Church in Sylan Township on Thursday, April 9th at 4PM Words of comfort and condolences can be left on Shane’s “Tribute Wall” online at www.coreyfuneralhome.com.

Gary Theo Maddern, 81

His obituary picture says it all, Gary Theo Maddern’s legacy full of love, heartfelt laughter and a fair amount of mischievous scheming. On Saturday, March 21, 2026, Gary was welcomed to his home in Heaven and reunited with the love of his life, Merriellen (Bridgewater) Maddern, who passed away in 2006. Known for his resourceful nature and an endless supply of jokes, Gary’s presence was enough to brighten any room, mainly because he was always up to something.

Born in Evart, Michigan on March 24,1944, to Theo and Helen (Norris) Maddern, Gary was a proud 1962 graduate of Evart High School. To him, work was just one part of a life well-lived; he was far more driven by his sense of mischief and his love for the outdoors. An avid fisherman and hunter, he also found great joy in the quiet, stillness of his garden.

Gary’s sense of humor was legendary. He famously loved to play jokes on his sister and was known to team up with family members and greet people on the party line with their version of the three stooges signature saying "Hello, hello, hello." Or making a simple task like ordering pizza, into a lifelong joke to those who remember him saying “No Artichokes, No Artichokes”! Whether he was gifting infamous and thoughtful homemade holiday treasures like his "turtle shell" helmet or the carefully crafted buckskin bras, he made the holidays into hilarious memories that will never be forgotten. Gary was the life of the party; he couldn’t resist the opportunity to make people laugh and he would never turn down a dare.

Gary is survived by: two daughters and their family, Karen Lawrence of Evart and daughter, Bridgette Powell of Ohio and Nancy Maddern Perna and her children, Gerald Perna Jr. and Erica Perna & 10 great-grandchildren all of TX; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Edwin Carmichael.

Knowing that animals held a special place in Gary’s heart, the family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions be made to Osceola County Animal Control (Shelter).

A Celebration of Life for Gary will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026 at the Evart Township Hall from 1-4PM. Friends and family are invited to honor his memory by sharing stories and laughing about all their favorite memories.
